80 watt PMG project(9/10/13)
Hello to the viewers of my webpages. Here again is another version of a six phase permanent magnet generator(PMG). This time around I intend to offer the unit to local hobbyists on a 'for rent' basis. Unlike before when I sold directly my projects to those who got interested, this time this is just for a rental arrangement. I believe it is a much better arrangement for project makers too who only need a PMG for a short time, e.g. students who need a PMG for thesis projects or hobbyists who want to test first their renewable energy system for feasibility. Again this project was made possible by those who continued to patronize my previous products which really funds whatever project I decide to explore or make. So thanks to all of them.
Now on to the product itself. It is again a six phase device with 6 AC output lines. This time I developed a modified rectifier to convert the six AC output into DC with a bit of a voltage boost to achieve more than 12VDC even with handturning. The rated power stays the same. The unit with attached rectifier is shown below.
It is quite easy to light a small resistance bulb with hand turning only. Please see the short video below.
Or with the use of a hand drill, I can easily light a couple of 12 volt car bulbs. Please see the video below.
Simple hand turning also gets the output voltage up to 16-18volts DC via the modified rectifier. The video below is a bit dim but the multitester is set to 50VDC. Watch how the needle goes beyond the 15volt mark.
Well that is all there is to this PMG. Until my next project.
